Spec Check - Zach Werenski

Zach Werenski is coming off an absolute career year. Capturing an Olympic Gold medal, as well as his first career Norris trophy win. His Norris trophy was well deserved with 81 points in just 75 games. Not only did he produce offensively, he was the cornerstone of the Columbus Blue Jackets back end. Zach is a bit of an interesting guy when it comes to his gear decisions, all of his visible protective equipment is Warrior, his skates are Bauer, but his sticks have been CCM. He used the FT8 Pro last year for the Jackets, but before he made the switch over to the FT8 Pro he was using this custom CCM Jetspeed FT7 Pro. What makes this stick so special is the custom logo that Zach had made up to honour his late friend, Johnny Gaudreau. The logo takes Johnny’s number 13 and puts them together to create Zach’s number 8. The angel wings are to honour both Johnny and Matthew after their tragic passing in 2024.

The specs on this stick could not be better for a modern defenseman. Enough whip to sling shots through traffic from the point, but not to whippy where he can’t win puck battles. Pair that with a hybrid kickpoint and you have an absolute jack of all trades stick. On top of the previously mentioned specs he is also using the fastest growing curve in hockey, the P86. The P86 (Polishchuk if its Bauer) is the hybrid kickpoint of curves, it can do anything you want it to and can be used with precision in any situation.
