Spec Check - Auston Matthews🍁
First off, yes this stick is old...but let's break down what Matthews might be using now that he's switched over to Bauer.
After a 5 year stint as a CCM athlete, Auston Matthews has gone back to his roots and has begun rocking a full Bauer setup. During his time with CCM he typically stuck with the Jetspeed lineup, starting with the FT2 and working his way up to his sick custom blue and white FT4 (which will go down as one of CCMs best graphics of all time). Most recently Papi had been switching between the FT Ghost, XF Ghost, and the CCM Mid Kick Prototype.
When we saw he was on the verge of switching to Bauer, the 2025 Flylite was not at the top of our list. It is almost poetic in a way that he did choose to go back to the Flylite as the last stick that he used as a Bauer athlete was the original Flylite (ADV Build). This stick is the perfect blend of all of his specs from CCM, sitting right in between his usual 80-85 flex. Rocking 82 flex on an ADV at around 215 lbs, no wonder his release is so lethal. The low kick point definitely plays into his release style, allowing him to get the puck off quickly. This stick was also before he made the switch over to the P86 so he was rocking a standard p92.
His newer Flylite however is still a mystery for now, we wouldn’t be surprised if he was trying something new this time around. Whether that be the 2NProXL or something more modern like the Proto 2, or the Pulse, we have no way of knowing until we can catch a glimpse of that name bar. He appears to have stuck with the P86 and in the 82-87 flex range as well so overall no real spec changes from Papi aside from the switch from CCM to Bauer.
