The Construction of One-Piece Hockey Sticks
It is important to know the construction and materials of your stick in order to make an informed decision on the product you are purchasing. How it is constructed will have a major impact on performance and durability.
CONSTRUCTION
There are three different ways in which composite one-piece hockey sticks are made:
1 | TRUE / GENUINE ONE PIECE CONSTRUCTION
Shaft and blade moulded together from the start to the end of the project. Highest production costs, most expensive stick, best feel and performance.
2 | SPEAR CONSTRUCTION
Shaft is moulded into what looks like a spear and then inserted into the blade and finished together. Looks completely like one piece and provides good feel and performance.
3 | FUSED TWO-PIECE CONSTRUCTION
Shaft and blade moulded separately and fused together to make a composite hockey stick with maximum durability. Lower cost, often feels blade heavy.
MATERIALS
The materials used will help determine stick performance and durability. A high performance stick will use 100% carbon content while less expensive, more durable stick will have a mixture of carbon and fibreglass (common rations include 70/30, 50/50 and 20/80). The more fibreglass used compared to carbon content, the heavier and more durable the hockey stick build.

How is it that an extended shaft can be cut without changing the flex? Is it an insert and not a true one piece?
